Sandboxed applications, such as Outlook 2016 for Mac, cannot call the function to set these applications as default applications in Yosemite and later versions. This behavior is as designed on Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10) and later versions. And in the future, it will also produce a development only for OS X users. Microsoft Office v.X generates a requirement of OS X 10.1. Microsoft Office v.X is believed to be a compelling upgrade and it will be available for users to run on Mac OS 8 and 9, but Microsoft is notifying with the updates of bug fixes and nothing more than that. OS X Yosemite achieved the kind of adoption in four days that took Microsoft's Windows 8 two years to accomplish. Yosemite's phone-calling feature works only with numbers that OS X recognizes as phone numbers, so the only way to type in a number and dial it is to type it into the search field in FaceTime. However, when you check the general preferences again, this option is not enabled. In Outlook Preferences, under General, you enable the Make Outlook the default application for e-mail, calendar, and contacts option. In Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac running on Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10) or later versions, you cannot set Outlook as the default application.
